Summary

Southern was started in 1993 by a group of friends that were looking around for other people that they got along with in order to have fun spending time off-highway. Southern High Rollers 4x4 Club (SHR) is a Texas not-for-profit club of 4-wheel drive owners chartered with the Southwest Four Wheel Drive Association.   The club is interested in:

  • Providing social, educational and recreational activities for it's members

  • Participating in and supporting civic activities for the betterment of the community

  • Creating a family-oriented environment where we can gather for the purpose of exploring, preserving and enjoying the remote areas of Texas and surrounding states.

  • Rendering aid and assistance as needed

  • Promoting the exchange of ideas and technical information.

  • To adhere to the principles and practices of Southwest Four Wheel Drive Association (SWFWDA) and United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA), TreadLightly! and the Blue Ribbon Coalition.

SHR meets once a month (usually on the third Saturday), and we try to have or attend frequent off highway functions.  See our calendar for the current events schedule. We publish the 4x4 Low Down, which is a printed newsletter, and we host two email lists (one general discussion and one environmental) for our members.

By joining the general mailing list you can participate in email-based discussions about our club, our 4x4's, and off highway driving in general.  By joining the environmental list you will be sent occasional e-mails from Blue Ribbon Coalition, UFWDA and various other sources that talk about off-highway issues.  Many people in SHR have strong opinions about what is right and wrong with the sport of 4-wheeling.  You should read some of this stuff and decide for yourself.

Bylaws

SHR  has adopted a simple set of bylaws (Adobe Acrobat File) which govern our activities as an club, the bylaws are written conforming to the directives of SWFWDA..  While we do not engage in a lot of parliamentary procedure, we do require that all members agree to these by-laws when they become a member.  We also have elected officers who provide the leadership necessary to keep us going, and we are always on the lookout for member volunteers who can assist in coordinating activities or working on committees.

Meetings

Meetings are generally held on the third Saturday of each month in the Houston area.  This may vary if there is a significant event occurring that weekend or for holidays etc.  The meetings are usually potluck type events held at a members house or local business.  SHR attempts to have meetings on opposite ends of town in order to accommodate all members.  Occasionally we will combine a meeting with an event, have the meeting in a restaurant or have a party

Committees

Currently we have three committees that have been appointed: Events Committee, Charity Committee and a Bylaws Review Committee.
