at Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area in Gilmer, TX

May 2-4, 2003


Barnwell Mountain has challenges for all ranges of vehicles from the "bone stock" to the highly modified. All of the trails are very scenic and most are very "woodsy". Most of the runs consist of several smaller trails connected together, so there is great diversity in the views. All trails and activities are on the property of Barnwell Mountain. You will not have to travel on any public roads to get to any of the trails or activities.

The town of Gilmer is only 5 miles away and has several restaurants and 2 hotels. The town of Gladewater is 16 miles away and is known as the "Antique Capital of Texas". It has plenty of shopping, hotels and bed & breakfasts.

DIRECTIONS TO THE PROPERTY: From Gilmer take Hwy 155 North approx. 5 miles. At 4 miles out there is a small blue sign on the right that reads "Picnic Area 1 Mile". You will turn into the picnic are, however, the entrance is at the crest of the hill and difficult to see so be sure to watch for it. Turn into the picnic area and follow to the park entrance.

CAMPING INFORMATION: There are 24 electric only RV sites on site and will be filled on a first-come, first serve basis. Dry campsites are unlimited. There are full bathroom and shower facilities on site. The RV sites are $12.50 per night and dry camping is $7.50 per night. The gates will be open at noon on Thursday, May 2nd. There are many, many hotel/motel/RV places within 25 miles of the event. PRIZES/RAFFLE: We will have a raffle to benefit the SWFWDA Land Action Fund. You will receive 1 raffle ticket with your registration. Additional tickets are $1.00 each and are available at pre-registration and will also be available on site. Last year's raffle proved to very successful and we are committed to making sure that this year's will be as well.

Rockgarden Challenge: Test your rockcrawling abilities and the durability of your rig on the Rockgarden. Sign up to run Saturday with the "Small Dogs" (tires up to 35") or the "Big Dogs" (35" tires or bigger and custom rigs). Either way, make sure you have spare parts; you're gonna' need 'em!

Humpty Dumpty Challenge: Sign up for this fun event! It's for a driver and 1 passenger. the passenger holds a spoon with an egg on it out the window of the vehicle while it is being driven over an obstacle course. The one that can get to the end in the least amount of time without breaking the egg wins!

Mandatory Equipment: All vehicles must have a roll bar or factory steel hardtop, be equipped with functioning seat belts (which must be worn on the trail) and front tow hooks.

Recommended Equipment: First Aid Kit, Fire Extinguisher, Tow Strap, Front & rear Tow Hook(s), Winch, and CB Radio.

Safety & Recovery Techniques: Your Trail Staff are experienced off-highway travelers, and will assist you in proper recovery techniques, including use of tow straps, tree savers, and winches. Use only properly installed tow hooks. Always be aware of others, especially spectators near more difficult obstacles, and when towing or winching.


SHR, TMTC & SWFWDA make no guarantees or promises that damage/breakage to ones vehicle may or may not occur. This is an off-road event and damage is possible. As the trail rating increases the possibility of damage and/or breakage increases dramatically.
